Dupré Vermiculite manufacture vermiculite
products and grades for packaging - in addition to five standard grades,
Dupré pk is a low-fines, treated product formulated specifically for
packaging use.
 The
uses of vermiculite as a packaging material is increasing following new
regulations for airfreight packaging. Ultra lightweight, clean and
easily poured around irregular shaped objects, exfoliated vermiculite is
inorganic, sterile, inert, highly absorbent and fire-proof.
 A
useful baffle against impact shock and improper handling,
expanded vermiculite acts rather like the 'crumple zones' in
cars - absorbing kinetic energy by crushing slightly, whilst
retaining absorbency and sufficient particle integrity to
continue to provide protection.
Exfoliated vermiculite will retain
liquids within the inter-laminar voids of the individual
particles as well as between the particles themselves. The
following graph gives an indication of the quantity of liquid
which can be retained using Micafil grade vermiculite, before
draining of the liquid occurs.
