 Vermiculite
in a refined form is used in animal feedsuffs. The free-flowing, soft,
absorbent vermiculite particle is an outstanding support material for
carrying a wide range of nutrients. Vermiculite is on the EC list of permitted additives in animal feeding stuffs, 70//524 (Binders,anti-caking agents and coagulants) see Chapter A, Part IV, Schedule 4, of Feedingstuffs Regulations 1995 (as amended.)
As an example of the carrying capacity of
vermiculite, a free-flowing fat concentrate can be made consisting of 70
percent fat and 30 percent vermiculite by weight.
It can also be used as a support material
for molasses, vitamins, choline chloride and any liquid based materials
to give a free-flowing granular material which can then be easily
incorporated into the animal feedstuff.
